An American IT company has expressed its keen interest in large-scale investment in KPK, includes setting up a tech city in the province.
An American IT Company showed interest in large-scale investment and establishing a tech city in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the meeting of Afiniti CEO Zia Chishti with KPK Chief Minister Mahmood Khan. KP Finance Minister Taimur Saleem Jhagra, Additional Chief Secretary Shakeel Qadir, KP Local Government Minister Akbar Ayub Khan, and Special Assistant Kamran Bangash along with other relevant officials attended the meeting.
Moreover, the proposed tech city would have a capacity of generating around 50,000 employment opportunities. In its initial capacity, it would be able to accommodate between 10,000 and 15,000 IT-related people. The meeting further informed the attendees that this project would be beneficial for youngsters. The meeting also decided that a joint team of the provincial government and Afiniti would be formed to identify a suitable site in order to establish the proposed tech city.
KPK Chief Minister Mahmood Khan while speaking on the occasion said that the result-oriented steps were being taken under the well-devised strategy by the provincial government. It would provide a great source of employment opportunities for the KPK’s people by attracting private investment.
KPK CM further assured to consider this Tech City a reality.
However, last year, the KPK government announced the project of Digital City in the province that aimed at generating at least 30,000 jobs. It was the first-ever initiative of Pakistan. The major aim behind taking this initiative was to generate jobs for youth in a digital economy.
Zahoor Shah Marwat of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Technology Board told media in August 2020, “The master planning and designing will be finalized by the end of October this year,”
He further said, “Potential investors, including software houses, technology incubators, electronic manufacturers, mobile, computer, and communications equipment manufacturers will be invited to establish their facilities,”
